Southeast Michigan · Building Easter baskets since 2016

A community service project that never stopped

Love One Another builds Easter baskets for children across Southeast Michigan and hands them to the organizations already working with those kids.

Our mission

To enrich the lives of underserved communities in Southeast Michigan through the gift of Easter baskets.

We provide gift baskets annually to charitable organizations in the area, including shelters, food pantries, community centers and afterschool programs. Over 3,600 Easter baskets have gone out since 2016.

2016

The first baskets

Amanda McCullough asked friends and family to help put together Easter baskets for kids who would not otherwise get one.

2019

501(c)(3) status

Tax-exempt status came through. EIN 83-3320874.

2026

The tenth year

670 baskets, delivered through 11 partner organizations. Over 200 went to children in foster care.

How We Started

In 2016 this was a community service project started, nothing more than that. Friends, family, a pile of baskets, one weekend.

Over the next few years, it kept growing and growing. At the time, one of our founders Amanda was working at a small law firm downtown that handled paperwork for corporate and nonprofit clients, so she learned how the filings worked and did her own.

Three friends together Amanda McCullough, Trei Cools and Mickey McCullough formed the board. Amanda brought the mission, Trei the business savvy one, and Mickey the lawyer.

Tax-exempt status came through in 2019.

Our board members still run the organization as volunteers filling in lots of different roles from admin to filling Easter baskets.

"These organizations do such great work to provide resources to meet the crucial needs of these communities, so our mission is to fill in and provide additional support and enrichment for their clients through our Easter baskets program. We’re inspired by the work of our partner organizations, and our work simply wouldn’t be possible without them!"

What we are, and what we are not

The distinction matters, because it decides who we can help and how.

We are the builders

  • K
We raise funds and collect donated goods
  • K
We sort everything into five age groups
  • K
We pack, check and wrap every basket by hand
  • K
We deliver in bulk to partner organizations before Easter

We are not the distributor

  • K
We do not hand baskets directly to families
  • K
We cannot take basket requests from individuals
  • K
We do not decide which children receive one
  • K
Our partner organizations make every one of those calls, because they know their communities
